Day 8 - in Kakadu and Katherine

We were flying today! Yep, in a little plane - one that held a maximum of 7 people...now that's a small plane.
This wasn't our plane, that's Dustin sitting right inside the door. Our plane was just like it...just different call numbers.

Peter looks comfortable.

Chad, ready to roll.

Notice the arch? This is suppose to have spiritual significance with the aboriginals.
The East Alligator River...remember the one with no alligators, but crocodiles...the one we cruised on earlier.

My flying group: Pilot Paul, Caitlin, Lauren, Fearless Leader, Peter, Chad, Sarah

Happy Birthday to Andrea! I think one of her buddies bought this koala backpack for her in the little gift shop at the airport.
Just in case you're wondering where we are....

After flying over Kakadu, we headed to Nourlangie Rock, another Aboriginal rock art site. I was looking forward to seeing Lightning Man...
This is a 'blood tree'...the sap looks just like blood. Actually, when it hardens, it kind of looks like rubies!

In some of these places, you can just imagine the people sitting under these overhangs - protection from the weather - and painting. In some places, the rock where they sat is VERY smooth...it's that way from them sitting or standing or whatever they did.

This is Naulwinjbulwinj. He was said to be a dangerous spirt who ate females after striking them with a yam!
Here is Nabulwinjbulwinj with lightning man!
After we left Nourlangie Rock, we stopped at Edith Falls which is near Katherine. According to Tim, sometimes crocodiles - Freshies - will come into the water. When they are discovered to be in there, nets and signs will go up to keep people out until they get the crocs out.

Ahhh, a refreshing way to end our 8th day in Australia! (Day 10 on the itinerary!)
